Chipit vs Tunit

Well I must say I am surprised. Seems Chipit can’t even correctly spell the names of their competitor products and on top of that they get it all wrong while trying to make claims how much better the chipit is they simply shoot themselves in the foot. If they can’t get that right then how am i expected to have faith in their diesel tuning ability?

Below is an email enquiry sent by one forum user regarding claims made on the Chipit website to Tunit the company they were so eager to slag off about and below that the reply from Tunit stating the facts.

Subject: Is your chip product unique?

Hi, I was looking at another chip product the CHIPIT and on their website they make the following claim. Just wondering your comments on this? Is your product just rebranded and the same as DP, Roo and such and is it just a variable resistor? Im just worried about smoke and dumping fuel in if its a resistor type chip. http://www.chipit.com.au/product-info/new-215-board-released-and-show-superior-results/ “A little information on our competitors. These following 4 companies all use the same rebranded chip: DP, Rapid, Roo and Tune it. (Ed Note Correct spelling is Tunit – Chipit can’t even get that right!) These companies simply purchase from a European company called Kubeal (Ed Note Correct spelling is Kuberl – Chipit can’t even get that right either!) , rebrand it and sell it as their own. This rebranded with which they all are using implements a very primitive variable resistor method of adjusting the 0-5 volt signal from the CR Sensor! This is really a poor method of tuning since it increases fuel by the same percentage right throughout the rev range. That’s why many owners of these other chips complain of the vehicle blowing black smoke or lack of mid-range power as you simply CANNOT have both high power setting without the smoke. Again, other chips cannot as a variable resistor will add fuel EVERYWHERE by the same percentage.”

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Tunit have been around for 14years worldwide. Tunit are the manufacturer of our products. We re-program the units here to suit Australian fuel and climate. To be honest I am surprised that any company would try to go down the path of trying to discredit any opposition product as oppose to selling their product purely on their achievements or positives. I would call this approach unprofessional. Roo are a licensed rebrander of Tunit, DP and Rapid are totally different units and work in different ways all together.

I would normally not mention anything about the opposition but in this case to answer your questions it seems that I probably should.

The Tunit is not a variable resistor, it runs a 32BIT microprocessor and controller that works on unique load calculations. The tunit can be laptop tuned extensively to change many aspects of fuel attribute. Many things can be achieved using underlying CANBUS signals. We used to connect to MAP sensors on our old models approx 8 years ago but it is old technology not using CANBUS.

We have many dealers that have tried the chipit product as everything sounded great and they stayed with us as they came across the problems which chipit are claiming other products have and didn’t with ours. Manufacturers like Mitsubishi are voiding warranty on vehicles with units that go onto the MAP and MAF sensor which have caused many problems on their vehicles with boost and air flow etc.

The Tunit is installed upstream from the ECU leaves the ECU in total control of safety as it was intended, this not allowing anything to go above and beyond any pre-set safety tolerances for engine. Which When some units are installed they are downstream (such as on injectors etc) from the ECU and rely on their own safety and in some cases other aftermarket products. To my knowledge Chipit are one of those units and I know that they require an addition and although they say their unit is $9**?, you must install an EGT gauge and controller this I am sure speaks for itself, I think they are also another $400. From what I hear they get good gains using their method and that is completely up to them how they achieve this and to their customers of what they would like done to their vehicles.

We are also able to re-write factory ECU’s for most vehicles in-house in Australia which in 99% of cases can not be done by other companies, others generally send files overseas and replace them with tuned files from abroad or work from a database written overseas. Along with all the other areas we change depending on vehicle and fuel type from throttle positions, cam timing, ignition timing, rpm limiters, fuel attribute, speed limiters, DPF removal this ECU writing is the only way we could condone changing things like boost and air. We do not believe there is enough control with a piggyback system of any type to safely change these areas as they are just by tricking the MAF sensor and MAP etc to try to get what is required.

Basically as I mentioned I do not like ‘slagging’ etc other products or normally see any reason to do so but when a company publically publishes articles with false information trying to put down competitors I think some info needs to be told.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call or email me.

Kind Regards
